I’m kind of depressed. I just finished Devil’s Brood by Sharon Kay Penman. Henry’s dead.
Of course, I knew it was coming. He’s actually been dead for more than 800 years.
But Penman does such an amazing job of bringing Henry II – his loved ones, his enemies, the medieval world – to life that I feel almost like he died this afternoon.
And like I knew him.
Gavin Woods says
I’m halfway through the book myself having read Penman’s entire collection over the years so already feel sad that it’s coming to an end soon. Henry II is one of my favourite kings and the rise and fall of the Angevin Empire is one of the most exciting eras of history.
